What is FolkMiles?
FolkMiles is an India-focused travel company creating personalized, locally informed journeys. We connect travellers directly with the real culture, landscapes, and stories of a destination through the knowledge of people who live there.
Folk means people. Miles means journeys.
Our name reflects our philosophy: "Folk" honours the residents, hereditary storytellers, drivers, craftspeople, and cooks who give a place its character. "Miles" represents the distance travelled with an open heart. Together, they form our core promise: Explore by Locals.
What does "Explore by Locals" mean?
It means stepping away from commercial tourist checklists and cookie-cutter tour buses. It means knowing which fort bastions catch the best morning light, which family-run havelis serve the most authentic ker sangri, and where to find undisturbed sand dunes away from noisy vehicular strips.
Why was FolkMiles created?
Modern travel in India often suffers from two extremes: rushed, commercial package tours that reduce living cultures to mere photo stops, or completely unguided travel where visitors miss the deeper historical and human context. FolkMiles was created to bridge this gap—offering private, thoughtful journeys with human-level support.
Why begin with Jaisalmer?
Jaisalmer is our first live destination. Because of its living 12th-century fort, ancient Silk Route merchant mansions, and the vast silence of the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer demands nuanced local knowledge. We chose to build deep operational roots, verified partner relationships, and exceptional private itineraries here before expanding.
The future India vision
Our long-term ambition is pan-Indian. We are establishing destination-level networks destination by destination—across the palaces of Rajasthan, the valleys of the Himalayas, the ghats of Varanasi, and the backwaters of Kerala. We expand only where we have verified ground relationships, ensuring every future destination maintains the same standard of local integrity.
How FolkMiles plans trips differently
Every journey is private and customizable. We do not use rigid bus schedules or hidden booking markups. We provide clear, itemized written quotations, assign dedicated local drivers and guides, and remain reachable on WhatsApp and phone before and during your trip.
